Everything you need to start your first beehive! The perfect way to get established as a hobbyist beekeeper, whether you want to keep langstroth hives or intend to use this kit as a companion to your Flow honey super.
Our complete beehive kit comes with the following:
-
Full-depth box, made from plantation-grown New Zealand radiata pine, assembled, wax-dipped and painted.
-
Assembled migratory lid: 10mm Weathertex board for insulation, with tin for extra weather protection, and wax-dipped and painted rim with 4 vents to regulate heat inside the hive.
-
Assembled, waxed and wired frames: tacked and glued, with stainless-steel spring wire. Ready to go: you can stick them straight in the hive.
-
A mesh bottom base, wax-dipped for durability. This is our best base, and one of our most popular products.
-
A convenient front feeder so you can feed your bees, ensuring that the colony you establish will be as strong as possible.
-
An em-lock hive fastener.
-
Lastly but most importantly, a package of bees! You will get 4lbs of bees and a queen (packages are available mid-late October). You can pick your package up in-store at either Hornsby or Mount Druitt.
-
If you have always wanted to keep bees, what are you waiting for?
-
Please see the photos for a picture of a starter kit purchased by one of our customers. This is a 10-frame starter kit to which the customer has added a honey super. As you can see, the bees are doing very well! We think the setup looks great. Please note you should not add a honey super to your starter kit until your bees have filled out the bottom box (75% drawn comb with brood is a good rule of thumb).
Note: this kit comes without beetle traps. HBS staff strongly recommend that you buy a beetle trap to manage small hive beetle.
