Why Happy Bee Queens Are Caught Later

A key difference in how Happy Bee operates is when our queens are caught.

Many mated queens are removed and sold around 14 days of age often before their laying pattern has fully stabilised and before pheromone production has peaked.

At Happy Bee, our queens are typically caught at around 28 days, once they have had time to:

• complete mating

• begin consistent laying

• establish strong pheromone signals

• demonstrate a solid brood pattern, including capped brood

This additional time allows us to confirm that each queen is a known, proven layer, not just a recently mated queen with untested performance.

The result is a queen that is better prepared for introduction into a new hive, with higher acceptance rates and reduced risk of early rejection or supersedure.

Ordering and Shipping Information

Live mated queen bees are caught on Sundays only and posted on Mondays only.

• Orders must be placed by close of business Friday to be included in the following week’s catch.

• We strongly recommend shipping to a local Post Office for collection, as this typically reduces transit time by one day and improves outcomes for live bees.

Availability is seasonal and limited due to the way our queens are raised and held longer before release.
