Understanding Flow Hive Sizes

Most Flow Hive owners use one of two systems.

6 Flow Frame System

The 6 Flow Frame system is based on an 8-frame Langstroth hive configuration.

7 Flow Frame System

The 7 Flow Frame system is based on a 10-frame Langstroth hive configuration.

Flow Frames are physically wider than traditional timber Langstroth frames, which is why your Flow Super contains fewer frames than a standard hive setup.

Many beginner beekeepers become confused by this difference when purchasing their first Flow Hive®. This is completely normal.

If you are unsure which version of the Flow Hive® you own, we are happy to help identify the correct setup prior to installation.

Every FlowReady™ colony is carefully prepared and inspected prior to installation.

We complete health and brood checks including:

• Healthy brood pattern assessment
• American Foulbrood (AFB) inspection
• European Foulbrood (EFB) inspection
• Confirmation of a healthy laying queen bee
• Overall colony strength and condition assessment

We also provide practical guidance around:

• Small hive beetle management
• Varroa mite monitoring and treatment
• Seasonal colony development
• Beginner hive management considerations

What Happens After Purchase?

Once your order is received, we will guide you through a few simple steps to help prepare for installation.

This generally includes:

On installation day we will:

FlowReady™ Delivery & Installation Zones

Site Access & Suitability

Most installations are straightforward, however steep terrain, difficult access or long carrying distances should be discussed with us prior to booking.

This simply helps us plan appropriately for safe hive transport and installation.

Installation is mandatory and included with this service.

Pickup is not available.

Customers will generally be contacted within 2 business days to organise installation timing.

Ongoing Northern Rivers Support

FlowReady™ customers are welcome to contact us with questions as their colony settles in.

We also offer:

• Optional follow-up hive visits
• Seasonal mentoring
• Practical troubleshooting guidance
• Queen replacement advice
• Ongoing local support where needed

Optional Follow-Up Hive Visit

$120 + travel
(Up to 45 minutes travel included)

This visit is ideal for beginner beekeepers wanting additional hands-on support, hive guidance or reassurance during the early stages of colony development.

Biosecurity & Varroa Treatment Guidance

Initial Varroa mite treatment and beetle management are included with your installation.

Ongoing hive inspections, pest management and colony maintenance remain the responsibility of the beekeeper following installation.

Due to increasing Varroa mite pressure in NSW, continued monitoring and treatment are essential for long-term hive health and colony survival.

Live Bees & Hive Performance Disclaimer

All colonies are supplied with a live, actively laying queen bee at the time of installation.

Our colonies undergo careful health and pest inspections prior to supply, including checks for:

• American Foulbrood (AFB)
• European Foulbrood (EFB)
• Brood health and pattern
• Overall colony condition

As bees are living insects operating within a natural environment, we cannot guarantee ongoing colony behaviour, honey production, temperament or survival following installation.

Hive performance may be influenced by:

• Weather conditions
• Local forage availability
• Neighbouring hives
• Pest and disease pressure
• Hive management practices

Honey bees may forage up to 5km from the hive, meaning colony outcomes can be influenced by environmental conditions beyond our control.
